RE: The Creation of a Schoolwide Instrumental Music Program
Dear Superintendent Slattery and Principal Werkheiser:
As you likely know, school instrumental music programs have immeasurable value. Some statitics for your review can be found at www.dosomething.org/tipsandtools/11-facts-about-music-education#.
We would like for our children’s school to offer such a program during the school day as part of the curriculum. After researching nearby schools, it was revealed that many feeding into Belvidere High already have such programs. We feel that if they are capable of having an instrumental music program we should be able to offer a similar one.
It is our understanding that our music teacher is qualified to run an such a program. In addition, there are facilities that rent musical instruments to students.
We are reaching out to you to let you know of parental interest in the creation of a WTCS instrumental music program. We look forward to exploring options as a school family under your guidance and hope to be able to meet with you soon.
Thank you,
I have been hearing from so many of you who remember how much music meant to your own development. The silence from the administration is frustrating but I am currently gathering our research to present a formal case during the next board session.

Watching the growing support from this community reminds me of how much my own children deserve the same opportunities as their friends in neighboring schools. The momentum behind this effort is truly heartening because it shows that so many of you value the gift of music as much as I do.

My daughter has been asking to play the clarinet for two years now. it would be so much easier if she could learn during school hours instead of us driving all over the place.
