I am writing to express my support for WHIN Music Community Charter School and request that WHIN be granted a five year renewal term and an expansion into Middle School (grades 6-8).
As a supporter of Arts Education, I believe that WHIN Music Community Charter School is an asset to all the youth of Washington Heights and Inwood. WHIN’s high standards combined with an arts integrated approach to teaching truly provides its students with the resources and access to become citizen artists who use their knowledge, music, math, literacy, and science to make the world a better place.
WHIN’s dedication to their families and community is deeply felt by all that are within the community. They are accessible, thoughtful, and very communicative. As the only charter school of its kind, I strongly believe its benefits to our youth need to continue in CSD6 as its inaugural class approaches 5th grade. As such, please approve the charter expansion request so WHIN can grow in a K-8 school.
In short, I fully support and endorse WHIN Music Community Charter School’s full renewal and expansion to Middle School. I value the mission and approach of WHIN, and I would be pleased to see its full expansion to Middle School in the community.

We need more schools like WHIN! They've shown so much dedication and skill in creating an academic environment especially over the last year and a half. They richly deserve to be renewed and permitted to expand into grades 6-8.
WHIN and Monroe College have developed such a strong, reciprocal partnership. The teachers have gone above and beyond in supporting our student teachers and when visiting the school their mission is abundantly clear!
As a neighborhood native, I can speak from experience that in District 6, WHIN is highly valuable. I feel it is extremely important for students to be offered other opportunities outside of books, sports and what they see outside of their windows.
I work closely with the administration and staff, all of whom are dedicated and caring educators who have created a strong community at WHIN.
I have seen WHIN grow from a start-up to a successful school. I am a strong believer in the Arts as an educational advantage to young people and feel like this expansion will be a terrific attribute to the community.

My daughter, Ashleigh, was a Julliard MAP mentor for this program. She mentored an amazing young violinist! We think that this program is wonderful and is definitely needed.
