Petition For A Costco on The East Side Of Big Island

PLEASE PLEASE!!!

Definitely needed!

Me and my family of 5 have lived on the Hilo side of Hawaii for 6 years. We moved from Maui where we had a Costco and shopped there for everything, including gas. Since moving here we've lived in Pahoa, Mountain View and have finally bought a house in Keaau 3 years ago. We used to try and make Costco runs, but they slowly started becoming less and less frequent. The trip alone is about 3 to 4 hours round trip, then there's the wear and tear on our vehicle, the gas it takes to make the trip, and finally the coolers and ice needed to make sure the food we'd purchase made it to our fridge and freezer without going bad. The coolers also made it difficult to buy everything we needed because they take up so much space in a car, and with a family of five even when we shopped monthly we would have to SERIOUSLY stock up on groceries from Costco. Having a Costco on the West side of Hawaii island would help my family immensely. We would shop there several times a month, definitely weekly and there will be times when we would shop twice a week even. As it is, with the only Costco on Hawaii island in Kona, we don't shop there anymore. We used to have gold membership, but we let it lapse back in August because we don't shop there but once a year and it wasn't worth it to keep paying the membership. So now we won't be shopping Kona's Costco AT ALL. PLEASE put in a Costco for all of us on the OTHER HALF of our island! It's time. There's a HUGE boom going on RIGHT NOW with more and more people coming here to live all the time. I see it evidence of it with new houses popping up left and right and traffic clogging up our main streets and highways getting worse and worse too. We've had the population to support a Costco on this side for a while now, and that population is only growing with no end in sight. Put in a Costco on the windward side of Hawaii and I can promise you one thing is certain: if you build it, they WILL come.

We need a Costco on our side of the island. We have more people than the Kona side and could certainly keep a new Costco in business.

We should have a Costco on the east side of island for more job availability. It will also offer us cheaper prices for items which gives us freedom from having to pay high prices.

Would love to see Costco on the East side of the Big Island.

Costco would get a lot of business by adding Hilo as a location. It would help the environment by residents using less gas and saving unnecessary wear and tear on our cars.

This is a terrible idea. A Costco would detract from sales at key stores like KTA and Sack-n-save. Those businesses actually give back to our community, sponsoring many organizations and events. Furthermore, Costco isn't going to support all our local food manufacturers. Atebarra chips, Maebo, local farms and more would all lose the ability to distribute their products. It isn't going to make jobs, its going to steal them. Furthermore, all the money these local businesses and food producers make is going to get shipped off island to national brands. You want lower wages, less independence, fewer programs for our keiki and an even more difficult and higher cost of living? This makes no sense to me.

I would have had a membership a long time ago if there was a East side Costco!

Would love Costco to be on the east side and bring more jobs!! Save us all a big drive.
