Maintaining the integrity of wheelchair pickleball

Pickleball - an amazing game that brings people together from all walks of life. As an adaptive sport, wheelchair pickleball possesses the unique characteristic of easily affording adaptive athletes the opportunity to participate with standing players. Be it family, friends, or players you meet at your local courts, it's incredibly easy to explain the two primary rule variations between wheelchair play and standing play, i.e., two bounces and our large wheels represent our feet. At that point, it's time to call 0-0-2 and serve up the first rally!
Recent efforts, however, have attempted to encroach upon this beautifully inclusive aspect of our game. Efforts have been made to alter standard rules of the game, particularly for competitive hybrid (one standing, one wheelchair) division play. As athletes in wheelchairs, these efforts are segmenting us from the standing player population and signaling that we need "special treatment" to be competitive with our standing counterparts.
By signing this petition as a wheelchair pickleball player, you're declaring that equality and fair representation for the wheelchair pickleball community is recognized through maintaining the integrity of the game by keeping its rules aligned with standing pickleball to every extent possible. Any proposed rule change that erodes the inclusive nature of the game, that creates a barrier to fair and consistent officiating, and/or that strays from the fundamentals of standing pickleball should not be entertained.
