Dear Dr. Ryken,
We, the students, faculty, and staff of Wheaton College, are excited to welcome you into your new role in the Wheaton community! As you arrive on campus, we know there will be many items and issues calling for your attention. Many of us want to express how important issues of racial, ethnic, and gender diversity on campus are to us as a community. We applaud the considerable strides that have been made in these areas through the direction and consideration of Dr. Litfin. We are also excited to see that your speaking, writing, and experience in inner-city Philadelphia demonstrates that diversity is a priority for you as well.

We hope our support encourages you to make racial, ethnic, and gender diversity a priority as you begin the exciting, yet, difficult position as President. Increased recruitment and retention of international and students of color, as well as improved minority and female faculty representation are necessary steps to strengthen diversity. Diversity is an integral part of understanding the Kingdom of God, as well as creating an environment of learning suited to developing whole and effective Christians. By signing below we are collectively affirming the College's commitment to this concern, as well as pledging ourselves to your support in this effort.

                                                                                                      Sincerely,

The administration has acknowledged receipt of our communication and the catalog of signatories. I am currently coordinating a time to discuss these requests in a direct meeting with leadership. Your ongoing commitment provides the necessary foundation for these formal conversations.

Fully behind this. The faculty hiring process really needs an update.
