Petition to the City of Westmount Council
to AMEND the current
Arena/Pool Plan (April 2010)
YES, WEstmount CAN MAKE A WISH for a more inclusive project and an indoor swimming pool.
The City of Westmount is building an over-sized project according to its current arena/pool proposal. However, many in the community believe that this plan should be reviewed due to the following facts:
- A new and scientific study is required based on Westmount’s population only.
- The April 2010 survey was flawed, and it has been falsely suggested that the grant money would be lost if the project were changed.
- Measured against other communities of similar size, Westmount already has equivalent or more ice capacity per person.
- The focus on 2 NHL rinks excludes all the other spheres of the society.
- An outdoor-indoor pool or alternative sites for part of the facilities are not considered.
- It is a threat to the neighborhood. It will increase traffic, pollution, decrease public security, and permanently alter the well-being of the Westmount park.
- The cost for this over-sized facility, will unnecessarily increase Westmount’s debt and taxes.
There is always time!
The WESTMOUNT City Council must STOP the current ARENA/POOL plan and conduct a scientific study that integrates the true needs of the COMMUNITY.
