Dear Governor Walker,

Your bill that would eliminate collective bargaining rights for public employees would have catastrophic results for the people of Wisconsin. We call on you to drop the efforts to pass this bill and negotiate a more responsible solution. What is at stake is livelihoods, health care, the education of children across the state, and the rights of all workers.

Together, we are standing with the public employees of Wisconsin in calling for you to sit down and negotiate with workers and legislators. We recognize that tough choices are required to reduce the deficit. However, we must make responsible cuts and this bill is anything but responsible.

For example, Wisconsin would become just the sixth state in the country to eliminate collective bargaining rights for teachers. The five that currently are like this have SAT/ACT scores that rank 44, 47, 48, 49, and 50 nationwide. Wisconsin currently ranks second.

Governor Walker, Wisconsin can do better than this bill. We call on you to negotiate with Democratic and Republican lawmakers to come up with a bipartisan compromise that could reduce the deficit without destroying communities. Thank you for your consideration.
