They actually listened and are changing the policy so we get our own spaces back. I am honestly just floored that 441 of us kept pushing until they finally acknowledged the safety concerns we were shouting about. We still need to keep a close eye on those facility changes but …

The YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities is allowing individuals to choose whichever restroom or locker room they want to use, regardless of their biological sex. Allowing transgender individuals to use the facility of their choice creates a loophole that gives other men and even sexual predators who want to harm women and girls easy access to the women's facilities

We are not comfortable with this. Our right to privacy is being violated, and our safety is being compromised.

Many Twin Cities YMCA facilities are not constructed efficiently to accommodate this practice in a safe manner that respects our privacy. We ask that the YMCA reconsider this stance or else consider waiting until better accommodations with sufficient private showering and changing spaces are provided.

I really did not think this would gain this much steam so fast but here we are and it is both overwhelming and honestly kind of validating to see so many others feeling that same knot in their stomach about these facility policies. It keeps moving and moving and I find myself checking the updates constantly while trying to focus on my actual work which is definitely not going great today.

The numbers are creeping up and I keep checking my phone because I really think we have a real shot at hitting that milestone before the sun goes down. If you know someone who feels just as uncomfortable as we do about the locker room situation please just send them the link right now while the momentum feels real because I feel like we could hit that goal if everyone just does one quick thing.

I noticed we are creeping up toward those first hundred signatures which feels like a real turning point for us (I honestly just want to print this out and drop it on a desk already). Please keep grabbing people who might care because if we hit that mark quickly it just sends a clearer signal that this is not going away.

There are other ways to provide a gender neutral solution beside allowing people to simply choose a male or female bathroom. Current news has been reporting abuse of the gender neutral facilities on campuses requiring changes in their policies.

For Muslim women, where is the accommodation? Their faith prohibits being seen undressed by a male that is not their husband. Some will not even visit a male doctor. Do you have any families that are practicing Muslims at your location?

1 in 4 women experience sexual molestation or abuse (Men as well, but the number is lower.) Why would you want to further traumatize roughly 25% of your patrons by creating a situation that will feel uncomfortable and unsafe?

We have enjoyed the West St. Paul YMCA because we like the pool, however if I would need to be concerned about bringing my children into a locker room with mixed genders - regardless of how someone else identifies themself - I would not return.

We just moved into the West St Paul, and will wait to join until we are assured there is a separate private place where someone of the opposite sex isn't gawking at us. How do you know sex offenders aren't taking advantage of your liberal policy?

I've always loves the principles the Y stands for. This disapoints me so much. I hope they are willing to put in more family changing rooms with separate rooms and showers where I don't have to send my girls or boys in a locker room alone, wondering what they will encounter.

This is nothing less than the mindset of rape. We as YMCA members that you claim to care about are telling you loud and clear "No! Stop! We do not want this!" The YMCA is in effect telling us "Too bad! We do not care about you! We are doing it anyway! Case closed!" The YMCA of all places despising so much their biologocally female clientele that they do not listen and instead are so quick to put us in precarious situations, completely ignoring our pleas - our concerns based on reality, despite what they tell us! If the YMCA truly is "for all" then they would be listening and coming up with a reasonable solution that really does welcome us all into a safe and respectful environment.

Forcing women and children to share showers and changing rooms with men, regardless of their gender identity, is truly anti-women and anti-family. That the YMCA would ignore the legitimate privacy and safety concerns of women, children and former rape victims says they are not FOR everyone, they are only FOR those the PC police tell them to be for. We will give the YMCA a couple months to get it right, otherwise we'll be taking our family membership elsewhere.
