We lost €70,000 due to unscrupulous corrupt developer and lawyers in Cape Verde as well as MRI - the selling agent. In spite of numerous disaster stories like ours, the EU is pouring taxpayers' money into the place and insisting that “The Republic of Cape Verde shares the fundamental principles of the EU, such as democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Such similarities demonstrate the benefits of the development of the relationship between these two governments.” instead of looking after EU citizens whose taxes the EU bureaucrats are misguidedly spending as they feel fit.

We invested in Villa Verde through an Irish company called MRI. When Tecnicil took over, we paid our stage payment on time when requested plus the very expensive furniture package. When it went almost 2 years over the completion time we decided to pull out and ask for our money back (as was our right under Tecnicils contract). We were fobbed off on many occasions, then told that Tecnicil held us in breach of contract and were keeping our 50% deposit. We have been fighting to try and recover our money ever since, but they are impossible to contact. Anyone thinking of buying in Cape Verde - be warned. It would seem that there is no one trustworthy within that country.

The colossal amount of unregulated property companies over run with deception & devious methodology
-should- have been under the scrutiny & protection of the EU .But the EU has no regard for victims of malpractice & business deception or fraud & has only self interest seemingly ...otherwise this could never happen here, or Bulgaria or Spain or Portugal & thousands of Uk citizens would not be left with heartbreak , stress, pressure & ill health & housing issues - lives beyond any recognition & that are barely tolerable.
