I have known this family for nearly thirty years and fully trust their business and work ethics in any given situation. Being educated in this area, it is without hesitation that I sign this knowing that we live in a country where the Right to open a business and run it with good judgment and revenue for the community.

I am a Nederland native and I completely support this idea. There are a great many places one can purchase and/or consume alcohol in Ned. In fact, Nederland has an unusually high number of bars per square mile, and you need only ask the Sheriff's Department what affect this has on violent crime and accidental death. The simple fact of the matter is that it's both hypocritical, and absurd to support the sale and consumption of alcohol, while opposing Cannabis. Alcohol and tobacco kill millions annually, just in the U.S. alone, compared to zero cannabis-related fatalities globally. Secondly, there is a pervasive argument that having legalized public locations where one can purchase and/or consume Cannabis is going to result in increased cannabis consumption. This is patently false. I'll give you an example. When I was still in highschool (in Nederland), my friends and I used to joke about how much easier it was to get our hands on marijuana (or ANY other illegal substance, for that matter), than it was to get alcohol. The reason being that alcohol sales were regulated and you needed to be a certain age, have identification, not be currently intoxicated, only buy once per day, and so on. Proprieters of black market products have no such compunctions. As you can see, creating a legal framework for the legitimate sale of a Marijuana actually makes it MORE difficult for people to acquire it, not less. It also transforms what is literally a multi-million-dollar-per-year black-market industry into a legitimate one which is taxable and will actually recycle money back INTO the town, rather than out of it. This is a win/win, and anyone who says otherwise, is playing you for a fool.

Besides cannabis being safer than the alcohol bar across the street from the church a cannabis gathering is a place to enjoy like minded people knowing we are safe from being harassed by ignorance. You cannot tell you visitors to drive all the way up to awesome Nederland to buy you marijuana and then tell them to hurry out of town. People want to enjoy Nederland community and they too spend money at local shops. Being peaceful together should not be a crime.
