We Want A Vote On The 3% Equity Distribution Formula
We believe the formula APFA plans to use to distribute the 3% equity stake is unfair. Before the membership voted on the LBFO, APFA presented the 3% Equity distribution as a reward for all AA flight attendants once the LBFO was accepted. At no time did APFA suggest that the distribution might not be equal for all APFA members or that the members would not be consulted regarding the method of distribution. Subsequently, the APFA Board of Directors, without providing the membership an opportunity to comment, arbitrarily determined 1-1-09 through 8-31-12 as the dates for which W2 information would be captured. Those who had income during that period will be the only members to receive shares. Using this W2 method of determining share distribution unfairly compensates the collective membership and flies in the face of standard union principles of fairness to all. We believe that had the membership been given an opportunity to vote on the method of distribution, and had they known that thousands of members would be disadvantaged (or totally excluded), it is highly unlikely that the majority would have accepted the proposed APFA method. We, the undersigned, petition APFA to bring this issue to the membership for a vote before the distribution is made. We encourage APFA to provide the membership with alternate methods of determining the shares that will be given which reflect the sacrifice made by ALL members of APFA and upholds APFA's implied promise that acceptance of the LBFO would provide an equity stake for ALL members.
