We, the undersigned ALP branch members in Batman call on our state conference delegates to support changes to the rules that would give ALP members a direct say in preselection of Victorian Senate candidates at the May ALP State Conference.
The ALP is at its best when it engages and involves its membership in its decision making. ALP members are passionate and committed, and deserve a direct say in who we work to elect to parliament. Directly engaging members in preselections at all levels will continue to demonstrate our commitment to being an open and democratic party.
Democracy begins at home. The rule change to allow rank & file members to have their say in Senate preselections must not be rejected again. Every Batman State Conference delegate s/be quizzed afterwards to establish whether they attended the debate at Conference and if they voted for the rule change.
