To the Board of Directors of North Queensview Homes:

RE: BIKE ROOM CHARGES

Residents of North Queensview Homes were notified of the charges that will begin to be applied to items kept in the bike rooms as of Feb 1, 2020 on December 30 and 31 (depending which buildings they lived in), 2019.

The charges are very steep for many of the families here, who will no longer be able to utilize the bike storage rooms at these rates. For a family of 4 with one bike each, for example, the cost is now $40/month or $480/year per family. The rate for parking a car here is $700/year starting March 1, 2020. The Social Rooms have increased in rate significantly and there are maintenance increases as well. It is getting to a point where many middle class families, who were the mainstay of this cooperative since its inception, are now wondering if they can have a future here.

We understand that the property taxes are increasing due to the end of the abatement, but we also understand that there might be other tax incentives and cost-cutting measures we can look into. We also feel that there can be decisions made to help offset costs that do not so drastically increase the cost to cooperators of living here, all in the course of one year. This puts a great burden on those of us who do not have the means to increase our salaries and income in that same amount of time.

We are writing to request that meetings should be convened to discuss the deficits in the operating budget so that all cooperators can better understand what is being done and what options are available to us. Additionally, we request that the start of these bike room charges be lowered significantly, to $5 per item, and that the start date be delayed to June 1, 2020, so that people have time to make alternate accommodations should they be needed.

Sincerely,
NQV Cooperators
