No to GST at this time. This month is one year since i hv bern jobless. Britian must know that you cannot tax a dead horse; where is your empathy, where is your conscience?

Our government, boards and oblivious technocrats more than doubled spending and the tax burden from 2004 to 2008 for the same services and population ($95 to $209 Million) - just before the global recession. After stabilizing at ~ $190 by 2015, they kept taxing and spending up to $240 Million. From exorbitant duties and fees on all we buy and eat, to property, electricity, phone, Internet, fuel and levy taxes, to dozens of increasing port and licensing fees, every family, merchant and service provider is already struggling to pay twice as much tax from the same income in a flat, fragile tourism economy, battered by Irma and Covid. Now, they want more? We must return to 2014 efficiencies, implement sustainable fiscal alternatives, commit all savings to pay our debts, and repeal GST: It is a cultural abomination born of years of excess and capricious oversight.

My BROTHERS and SISTERS of ANGUILLA, if there was ever a TIME, that TIME is NOW or then NEVER!...that We MUST stand in SOLIDARITY to save ANGUILLA for ALL ANGUILLANS and her FUTURE GENERATIONS FIRST!...for the WORD of GOD is ALIVE and POWERFUL: It will set US FREE, COMFORT US, HEAL US and FREE our SOULS as one NATION under GOD. The GST rate / percent is critical for all people in planning and assessing it's impact on their lives. Obviously this new tax is best defferred until we have sustainable economic development, and not implimented at a time of economic contraction. Any tax at this time, given the current economic circunstances, will further erode at least , the majority of the population's standard of living; this will lead to negative social and health consequences, as peole will be forced to eat less healthy foods, as the food budget will be directly negatively impacted. In fact , all new taxes should be rolled back in totally or in part at this time. Additionally, there is a real need for a stimulus injection of financial capital to prime the economy by way of creating robust industries, some of which can be found in technology, medical tourism, expansion in fishing industry through canning and exporting; development of the agriculture through new green house technology: vertical growth requiring less space for larger quanty out put.
In other words, there is need to create an economy that is robust and sufficient a basis for sustainable employment and affordable but necessary taxation.

This isn’t the right time to place more pressure on Anguillians who are unable to bare their immediate burdens of lack, joblessness, fear of impending health crisis, and a aged and declining population. Timing is paramount and now is not the time to lay more burdens upon poor people.

At this time, it is my belief that Anguillians cannot afford any additional taxes as the island is closed with restrictions and many persons are unemployed. It would cause extra hardship on families at this time.
