as a 2nd gen Irish Traveller, I fully believe that we are deserved an apology, in full from our Irish state. It is about time our culture, heritage and history of hardworking and honest people are given due respect.

The Irish state has blindly and ignorantly continued the policies of the British Empire. It is time for a new beginning.

Minceirs Whiden Ireland's all Traveller Forum is signing this petition on behalf of our 800 members. One of the key objectives of Minceirs Whiden is for the Irish state to formally recognise Irish Travellers as Ireland’s native ethnic minority; our people have lived on this island for centuries. We have shared with and participating in all the trials and challenges the people of this country had to endured, invasions, battles, famines, poverty, emigration, foreign rule over the centuries. Our people gave our blood, our sweat, our tears, our labour along with our joy, our laughter, our songs, our stories, our lives to and for this this country.
We are Irish Travellers. We own and claim our Irish Traveller identity with pride, we are proud of who and where came from, Proud to be a Irish, Proud to be Traveller, Proud to be Irish Traveller.

Irish Travellers should have equal rights to protect their culture and way of life. They take pride in family honor which i admire. I have been guilty in the past of using the K word but after seeing John Connors explain the hurt it causes him i no longer use the term. I did not use the term because of racism but because of ignorance i should have known better having myself always hated being called a "Paddy" and been the victim of assaults just for being Irish in London during the 1980s. I now apologise sincerely for that ignorance. I could be wrong on this point but i have always suspected that many traveller families became travellers centuries ago because they would not accept British rule of Ireland. Many surnames match the chieftains names of our ancient past.

I am not from the traveller community but I stand strong with them in a fight for equality and equity for all. Too long this is going on and our government have a lot to answer for. An apology is the very least these people deserve. Love and light to all xx
