I support the victims. And may Chantry take the next quarter century in prison to reflect on his conduct.

Those who are carnally minded (i.e. unrepentant ARBCA leadership) cannot please God no matter their standing as religious leaders professing allegiance to Christ. The carnal mind, though it can also be religious and zealous, is at enmity with God, is not subject to the Word of God and can only produce carnal, fleshly fruit. Flesh/carnality can only produce fleshly, carnal fruit displeasing to God and His Son (the Messiah/Christ of Psalm 2). Reference: Romans 8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who[a] do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be [b]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the [c]carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies [d]through His Spirit who dwells in you. Sonship Through the Spirit 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh

I don't see any confusion in this petition. I suspect that some of those who are "repenting" of signing it are yielding to pressures put upon them by the guilty.

I'd like to apologize for being too hasty with reading and signing the petition. I realize that this petition is for the few men involved and not the whole organization or affiliated churches.

I would like to clarify that I signed this petition in support of the victims. My intention was never to slander anyone nor call out those who have not been part of covering up these heinous sins. I apologize and ask for your forgiveness.

I signed this petition with the purpose of supporting the victims of Tom Chantry, but I am ashamed to realize I did not fully understand the petition I was signing and its broad implications. I ask forgiveness of anyone who was implicated in this petition who was hurt by it. I hope God will bless those trying to make a change in ARBCA and that God would forgive me for my overzealousness to condemn those who do not deserve condemnation. -Benjamin Rusev

Bob, thanks for the comment, could you clarify what you mean by "those that are included in the petition by name or by implication that have nothing to do with the Chantry affair" with specific examples please?

I maintain my support for the victims of Tom Chantry's abusive behavior. To those that are included in the petition by name or by implication that have nothing to do with the Chantry affair, I too ask your forgiveness for calling you to repentance for sin you have not committed. I stand with others who pray that justice be brought to those that were involved in the failure to report the abuse, who put Chantry in positions of authority within schools and the church, who gave him their pulpit, who withheld information from other churches about Chantry's offenses, and any person in church leadership that deceived or misled the church's elders or congregation.

I would like to remove my name from this petition. After some reflection, and re-reading this petition, I see I have made a mistake in signing. I do support the victims and their families. I do not support slanderous accusations of others. I repent for my sin and for any harm I may have contributed to in signing this. Deepest regards, Amanda Moore

I am thankful for a conversation today (May 18) with an acquaintance from a former church. He graciously pointed out that I should re-read this petition and my comments to it. After doing so it is clear that this petition and especially my former comments imply that anyone who remains in ARBCA must repent or will perish in hell. That was not and is not my intention. I must therefore repent myself and plead forgiveness from those I have hurt with a quick broad rush to judgment. May God be gracious to you and merciful to me, the sinner. While it is my belief that any who remains in ARBCA should remove themselves from that association, my conscience is not anothers and there may very well be those remaining in ARBCA churches who have very limited or simply no knowledge of the events surrounding Tom Chantry. With that said, I support this petition in that: -My heart and prayers foremost go out to the victims of Tom Chantry. May God be pleased to comfort and heal you. -A continued call to repentance of those directly involved in covering up and further enabling the sins of Tom Chantry. -The 2019 ARBCA GA delegate statement is shameful in its inadequacy to take responsibility for its past sinful actions and to demonstrate true repentance. May God almighty, the one who delights in mercy, be pleased to take this mess of Tom Chantry and of ARBCA and use it to herald forth the true Gospel and to bring many sons and daughters to glory. -Jim Broyles

I second this petition's support of Tom Chantry's victims and its call for repentance of ARBCA leaders who delayed justice for Chantry's crimes. May those who were involved in covering his crimes, concealing the truth, or delaying justice repent and seek forgiveness from the victims. I pray that God's peace and comfort would be with the victims, and that He would bless the efforts of those who are seeking reform in the association. That being said, I have chosen to remove my signature from the petition as I am not in agreement with the implication of guilt on all ARBCA members, nor do I know the hearts of men whose names are listed in the petition. I ask for forgiveness from those who have been hurt by an overly broad application of guilt. I hope this petition will help communicate to ARBCA leadership the seriousness of this issue, encourage examination, reform, and repentance where it is needed, and that truth and justice would prevail. -Tatiana Rusev

We second the concerns of many of the brothers and sisters here and would like to offer our clarification and apology to those who remain in ARBCA and yet have had no part in covering up sin. Please recognize the intent of our signing of this petition was not to blanket statement every single member of an ARBCA church as being in sin, sinful, or needing salvation. We do however echo much of the sentiment in the petition and comments here that it is absolutely sinful and reprehensible what Tom Chantry did to these victims. While the court has surely shown him to be guilty, he faces an even greater judge to which we must all give an account. For that, we surely tremble and most sincerely hope that repentance is wrought in his heart as well as those who sinfully covered up his crimes and allowed him to remain in positions of authority. To our brethren in the Lord who remain in ARBCA and are not complicit in this corruption but rather working to bring about much needed change, please accept our apology for calling you to repentance when it was unwarranted nor our intention to do so. While we chose not to remain in this organization, we nevertheless do not wish to judge your motives for doing so. Please forgive us. We will continue to pray that your work is fruitful. For those complicit in covering up Tom’s sin, for abusing church members, for twisting the Scriptures, for failing to protect children and families, we still offer our rebuke to you and still continue to call for your repentance and resignation of your positions as leaders. Please know that we genuinely desire to see you repent and make restitution for what you have done and we say this in love. Finally, for the victims of TC, we continue to support and pray for you. We cannot possibly understand what you have been through but our hearts break for you and the deep pain that has been caused in your lives and the lives of so many because of this situation. May God grant perfect peace to you through

We continue to fully support the victims of Tom Chantry, and their families, and grieve over ARBCA’s continued mishandling of the issue. We signed the petition because the statement from the delegates is shamefully inadequate. However, we need to provide some clarification, as others have done, regarding our disagreement with some of the language in the petition. We also need to take account for where we have sinned. ARBCA as an organization has acted in a disgraceful manner throughout the Tom Chantry ordeal. Specific failures are listed in our original comments. However, we’ve been told that there are some delegates who are actively confronting ARBCA’s sin and calling for true repentance and change from within the organization. Whether we agree with this strategy or not, the petition fails to recognize these efforts and distinguish between levels of culpability within the organization. Overly broad statements that attribute gross sin to everyone in ARBCA are not appropriate. As a result of signing this petition we fear we have inadvertently slandered some men who have no responsibility in the scandal. To these men and their families, we apologize for any harm or pain caused and ask for your forgiveness. The petition also makes judgements regarding the intentions of men as well as their standing before God. This judgement is not ours to make so we apologize and ask your forgiveness for that as well.
