You have the rights to your cultural heritage, and deserve this respect.

Shouldn't be happening, romani people are a race of people you can't go stealing from their identity and expect them to except it.

I also protest. Being a hippy is not a claim to Romany descent

My ancestors where killed in a horse and cart accident and the baby was adopted out because of this lack in knowing my heritage and culture to pass onto my children I envy and admire the Gypsy travelling community and apologies for the pain caused.

If you have no Romany bloodline you can’t call yourself Gypsy. Stop pretending to be of our blood. Stop appropriating our ways. Fine to call yourselves travellers if so be it. But you ain’t Romany.

I am a Romani woman now living in Australia. Hippie festivals such as this promote false stereotypes about the Romani people, who often have to file government paperwork under the ethnic group 'Gypsy.' I encourage you to read about the Romani people around the world on wikipedia. We are an ethnic group, not a lifestyle choice. WWII genocide, segregated schools, forced steralisations and slavery are part of the 'Gypsy' history and events marketed such as this make it seem like being Romani is just baby boomers playing with tarot cards and crystal balls in a caravan. I have no issue with people from all backgrounds enjoying and learning about real Romani art, music, dance and culture, but I do take issue with people thinking they can be "transracial" for a weekend and market themselves as original Gypsies. It's amusing that people who are probably all about love, peace and freedom have no problem with belittling a persecuted ethnic minority group for their own playtime amusement.

It's not ok for van dwellers to portray somthing they do as authentic when it isn't. By calling their fair "original gypsy" when they are not comming from the travelling community themselves you can see why it would offend.

there were many Romany people around and they were often stereotyped as lazy or thieves. I always liked them and often wondered what happened to them as i no longer live in Wales

The time has come for the fair organizers to change the name and stop profiting from the stereotypes of Romani people! It is the respectful and honorable thing to do!
