As a teacher who has done drop-off and pick-up (at the end of the day) duty at an elementary school, I believe that this teacher, although putting himself at a safety risk, did what he believed necessary to ensure the safety of the students. Anyone who believes he should be ‘disciplined’ for such behaviour should be put on the same duty for a week. I guarantee that they would feel differently. They should be grateful that there are teachers willing to do whatever it takes to keep children safe. There are way too many parents out there that feel rules do not apply to them in the pick up / drop-off area and it is only through the actions of diligent teachers, and the grace of God, that there are not more injured or killed children in these zones. He should be celebrated, not sanctioned.

The teacher should be commended not disciplined. And the mother, what lesson did her daughter learn from the incident? It doesn't matter if we're late we can break the rules and jeopardize the lives of students.

This teacher should be a hero! He is enforcing the rules to keep students safe. This mom is the problem.

He was doing the job he was assigned to do and keeping the children safe. The driver should be ticketed and fined for her part in this nonsense. She is the ONE AND ONLY person to blame for this issue. Any punishment against this teacher would be unjust.

I absolutely commend this young teacher. I worked as a transportation supervisor for a large school district. Parents routinely think they are justified in violating procedures on school grounds as did the woman in this incident. Do the right thing, do not by into the politics, support your staff school board!!

As a parent, seeing a teacher protect the students from harm makes me pleased and proud.

This is bigger than Sugarland now. The nation is watching how you choose to treat a dedicated teacher who was protecting students from an entitled, arrogant potential threat. What would your response have been if the teacher allowed the car to continue and she had hit a child? Would his passivity have been applauded as the “professional” thing to do? No. He had a job to do and he did it. We are watching.

Student safety was clearly NOT something this parent was concerned about. She admitted to ignoring another teacher’s request to stop, but felt that it was appropriate to disregard safety rules the school had set in place simply because she planned poorly that morning. Nope. That’s not acceptable.

Can we start a petition to keep rita away from all drop offs since she wants to pull this stunt on a teacher??

Good for him!!! We need more teachers like him and shame on the horrific reporting by that news station!!! By her own admission she was wrong and yet they paint him as the villain.

Teacher was right for not allowing her to proceed.... I would bet she does this daily and he was fed up. She knew she was wrong and now poor guy is the one who is going to get in trouble.
