As a recent graduate of UWEC, it disappoints me to no end to see this decision being made. It’s in times like these that students need the support and stability that DEI programs provide. UWEC can’t call itself a progressive, safe school for the LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, or any other oppressed community if these are the choices they are making. Shame on them.

Our child chose UWEC because of the programs you eliminated and the safety and community they felt on campus, thanks to the work that Chris and the GSRC do. Shame on the school for choosing political theater over providing what’s best for their students.

Eau Claire is better than this. Not just the university but the city as a whole.

As a UWEC alumnus, I won’t be donating money to the university anymore unless this decision is reversed. Fireball was my favorite event and the GSRC was hugely important to my time there!

I hope it’s possible to retain this employee and his great work. Resist!

Chris is a ray of sunshine at UWEC. Everyone I know has only positive things to say about this amazing human and if his position at the university is taken away then this campus will truly not be the same. His passion goes beyond LGBTQ+ issues and is a true advocate for all students.

As I listened to chancellor Jim’s final remarks at graduation in may, it is clear that this was part of something bigger.

This campus thrives on it’s queerness, if Chris leaves, so many queer resources and events leave as well

I worked at the AIL for all three years i was at uwec. Chris was an incredible person to have on staff. Devoted, kind, hardworking and full of heart. This decision is disgraceful, and it’s targeting the group Chris championed, the LGBTQ+. This cannot be allowed to happen.

I am a UWEC alumni that graduated in fall of 2024, and it greatly saddens and disappoints me to hear what has happened to the GSRC program. During my time at UWEC, I have met many people who chose this university because of the opportunities and supports provided by these programs, including me. I will have a hard time recommending UWEC as a worthwhile investment or educational option if these changes continue and are not rectified. Diversity, Equity, and inclusion programs are an invaluable part of any university, as they provides not only necessary support and community to the student base, but foster an environment that encourages acceptance and prepares them for a world of many different people who all deserve respect and opportunity.

As someone who came to Eau Claire specifically for queer support as someone who was figuring themself out, I'm extremely upset and angry at the sudden retraction and funding of all of these fantastic programs that drew in so many students in similar situations.

Chris Jorgensen has done so much for the university and his community. His firing is unjust and uncalled for. The cancelation of fireball and future q fest film festivals is absolutely devastating, and I hope that someday the university of Wisconsin eau claire will reinstate these programs.

This is pretty disappointing to hear about. As someone in these communities it was nice to know they cared about it a lot more than a lot of other colleges. Given it was a big reason I came to UWEC for the amount of inclusion it had, makes me question about my choice of college

Chris was one of the best professor I ever had, he took a class that was just a required course for me and actually opened my eyes to why this type of work is so important not only for individuals directly in affected communities, but for society as a whole to lift up everyone around us and recognize our shortcomings

This university prides itself on EDI and being supportive of all, yet the university has no comment on this….

This is just terrible. Do not gain recognition for being “the #1 LGBTQ+ friendly campus in the UW system” and then pull this on students who may have only come here because of that advertising.

Chris being fired is no less than an attack on the LGBTQIA+ community, and I am tired of pretending otherwise. It can be marketed as something else, but it was a strategic move to reduce support for this community.
