A gross and very silly decision that is quite harmful.

Chris has been and is a pillar in the UWEC and Eau Claire community. This decision will have larger affects than anyone could know at this moment. It's a shame to know such a progressive place is caving to the political pressures outside of the university.

My experience at UWEC would have been drastically different without DEI based programs. What a shame for a university who who’s biggest goal when I was a student was 20% diversity by 2020.

This is a terrible decision, the work that the GSRC does is impactful and very VISIBLE in the community at large. This is going to make the environment on campus much, much worse.

Firing Chris Jorgensen and other campus leaders who have been strong advocates on campus for vulnerable students is a very low moment for UWEC…
Every single person who contributed to the firing, as well as every person with power and influence who did nothing, the Eau Claire community is incredibly disappointed in you. I can’t imagine how the students must feel right now!
Campus is supposed to be a safe place for all students, for vulnerable students in this political climate especially - and that will not happen without dedicated leadership whose role exists to advocate and empower them.
As an alumni I am very disheartened at the cowardice of leadership who contributed to this decision. I hope that you will reconsider your actions, it’s not too late.

As a alumni, I strongly support the Department of Diversity, Inclusion, and Leadership and the community that it serves. Chris has been the face of this department since my time in school and provided critical programs for students in need. UWEC should be a leader in diversity and inclusion, and this elimination is a shameful decision. I cannot in good conscience continue to donate to my alma mater if they will not support ALL students.

During my time at UW-Eau Claire, Chris and the programs he offered made an incalculable difference in my ability to succeed academically and remain in school at all. It's a terrible business choice to shut down his office and his programs.

I'm disappointed to learn that the university is not protecting DEI and has instead decided to fire staff that help with these programs. As a member of the Eau Claire community I recognize UWEC is often looked to as a leader in what our city considers important and this sends the wrong message.

As a UWEC alumni who comes back to campus for Fireball annually, I am incredibly upset with the decisions being made that rolling back anything deemed DEI.

I’m appalled that a school that claims to be among the nation’s most LGBTQ-friendly schools and a safe environment for LGBTQ+ students would eliminate such an crucial position, especially now when it’s more important than ever. Students need to be supported by the school administration, not left to fend for themselves against the federal government.

This is disappointing news. In a place of higher education, supporting all student opportunities in equality is essential.

I am an alumni. My student email was [email protected]. I loved my time at UWEC, and it saddens me to see programs and personnel who were crucial to my college experience be removed, or face challenges due to the recent changes. I cannot in good conscience donate to UWEC if this school continues to demonstrate its lack of support for it's diverse student body.
Thank you for your time.
