Coastal Commission enforcement is agreeable to letting the developer put in 41 new trees as payment for cutting down 22 60 foot high Palms earlier this year. The replacement trees will be 30 feet trees, unsuitable for Great Blue Heron nesting. Leave the trees and build the sidewalk around them.

There is no reason the mall can’t be built so as to include the trees already there. The plans show palms in the design. Why destroy perfectly good trees only to put more in. Moving them won’t guarantee their survival. These trees are part of a heron rookery. I oppose this move.

No cutting down the palm trees!! No more diagonal parking. I was under the impression that there were plans to have plenty of parking without disturbing the existing vegetation. This is all uncalled for!

Why is it that much of what Long Beach does in the name of development actually ends up trashing the city and quality of life along with it?

It’s bad enough that the landscape is ruined by a huge costal mall but don’t make it worse by taking the trees and wildlife.

Moving the palm trees is part of a road diet plan that will be very bad for traffic flow which will get even worse with the new mall.

Keep the Palm Trees in the ground. Do not put them in planters. Just leave them where they are. There is no good reason to uproot them. This might kill them. Then the Herons will not have a place to nest. We will have Homeless Herons. Leave everything in the ground.

Keep the natural trees as they are! Iconic. Work around them. Disrupting them could hurt them!
