BDS is about eliminating ANY Israel, and not about ending the occupation of Arab land. Supporting BDS means supporting the destruction of a legal, legitimate UN member state and it is a way of advancing war. Please do not support the BDS movement.

I'd like to point out that this would include boycotting Intel, a major driver of the Portland economy. That is on top of the extraordinary hypocrisy of the idea in the first place.

Portland, please don't be swayed by the propaganda. The BDS movement is hateful and anti-Jewish. Israel is a wonderful, DEMOCRATIC country that is leading the way in all areas of technology. Don't hurt your own city and -- your Jewish community -- by cutting Portland off in the same way Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich were in 1930s Germany. I can't believe I have to write such a note 70 years later. Didn't we learn anything from the Holocaust? Shame on all of you!

Portland is a beautiful liberal city. Being liberal shouldn't equate with being anti-Israel. Portland can express empathy for Palestinians with supporting the BDS agenda of destroying an ally of the US. BDS calls for Palestine from sea to sea. BDS calls for the right of return for all Palestinian refugees (where refugee includes all descendants of actual refugees). In no other worldwide context do we define refugee as including anyone other than the individuals who were displayed or who actually fled. I urge Portland officials to obtain additional input before acting on this endorsement by Portland Human Rights.

We in Portland need to become more aware that there are several hate groups in Oregon. To confirm this, please see the website of the Southern Poverty Law Project, which tracks the many - and growing - hate groups throughout our country. If we don't stand up for justice not only in our state, but throughout the world, we become part of the problem. Shalom.
