WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER

Having met and filmed the people at Brithdir Mawr, and having recently discovered that my film is appreciated as far away as Romania, I was shocked to read that the agreement to sell to the community had been broken and hope the new owner will honour that promise in the breach. This is an inspiring and important group of people whose way of life needs to be seen for the positive lessons it can give to future generstions threatened with the devastating consequences of climate collapse which my generation has brought about through sheer greed.

The current established community at Brithdir do so much good as stewards of the land, educating and generously sharing the land as it should be, especially in this time of climate upheaval and the UK housing crisis. Long may they remain!

keep intentional communities within the hands of the people, allow them to grow and thrive. privatising space that is so valuable for so many people is just heartbreaking, and will be detrimental to so many’s current and future livelihoods. are you officially a co-op? and are you aware of the radical routes network? sending courage and solidarity

Let the People be heard

For the very example used to demonstrate the viability of the One Planet Cymru program to be shut down is high shame and demonstrates the callous uprooting of an established community for one individual's profits. This reminds me of those landlords who in the past took land with established tenants living and farming upon them; and, not satisfied with the rent they were being paid, turfed out the tenant farmers to replace them with sheep for higher profit. I have seen that the new landlord has stated that their offering "a clean slate, with the existing tenant's rights having to end". I do not know of which rights she is referring to but I am going to guess it involves all off grid /homesteading activities, effectively ending their livelihood and means of feeding themselves. There will be a battle against the crabs with the usual "if I can't do x why should y be able to" (you can) and the "they don't pay taxes" (they do) arguments but these are things that can be overcome. Best Wishes to Brithdir Mawr and their fight to remain and work on the land that has been farmed for decades. I hope in future to hear them say loudly "Yma o Hyd!".

This community is so beautiful, it’s full of incredibly strong and caring people with such a love for nature and sustainability. Brithdir Mawr is full of the warmest and most responsible nature minded people I’ve ever met.

Negotiating is the honourable path

A successful community that has taken years of loving hard work to evolve and that opens it's arms to everyone (regardless of means) offering education on self sufficiency etc and a peaceful community spirit. Now more than ever we need precious places like this. There are not many in the UK that are successful and this is a great example to inspire others. Surely it must continue!
