WE Need Support To Begin During and Immediately After A CANCER Diagnosis! If you agree please sign this petition! One of the worst days of our life began when we got a positive Cancer diagnosis. We will use this petition to ask for a support system to be put in place at doctors offices the day the patient receives Cancer diagnosis. Support can be a staff member or volunteer meeting with the patient before they leave to show support and offer cancer resource, support group numbers or hotlines and information to be offered on the day of Cancer diagnosis. Let me say THANK YOU to all the doctors and staff providing Cancer resources and services before, during and/or after a patient is newly diagnosed. So many times I hear the horror stories of survivors being diagnosed by their doctor and then are left with no support system or plans in place. The Oncology office/clinic needs a support plan in place to make sure the patient is given one or more of the following: Cancer hotline numbers, Social worker or counseling number, support groups contact information, faith support groups information or website with resources etc. Patients should be asked if they would like to speak with a social worker and assigned a Cancer Patient Navigator for immediate support if needed before the patient leaves the medical facility. Before a patient leaves that day they should be asked do they need to call someone? Will you be alright getting home?

My first diagnosis I passed out 3x and they were great! My second reoccurrence was diagnosed by ten doctors who said I had 30 days to live. I was in my 20’s. My third reoccurrence-due to switch of insurance I was given a CANCER diagnosis while driving to work, Though I pulled over to talk I was still feeling alone with no information, no one I could call that thought would understand, no immediate support while headed for work. IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE OF HEART and a Support system in place for Physicians offices to follow immediately after giving a patient a CANCER diagnosis especially during COVID pandemic. Some of us are blessed to have a great doctor who is patient and talks you through one of the worst days of your life. Days in my life.
