3 state electorates - not 1!

Reduce the amount of SEQ seats, not regional seats.

I totally agree with Rob Katter on this matter, he has my full support.

This government is out of touch (much like the previous LNP Cando Newman gov). Its so utterly rediculas to expect a MP to look after such a vast area. This is nothing short of stupidity. Those people need to be represented fairly. Proof again that NQ (and the west) is not part of the SEQ pollies radar. We dont exist as far as they are concerned.

Ridiculous...city electorates the member can ride a bike from one side to the other. How can one man do justice to his electorate with an area the size of the proposed redistribution ? Your food isn't grown in the cities.....give the people away from the south east corner equal representation. .

It is not reasonable that an elected politician can fairly visit the proposed enormous electorate. Farmers and small towns are vital to this country, treat them with more respect through allowing them reasonable access to their elected pollie.

What about making less in the south east

North Queensland is already underrepresented. We need more electorates not less.

We need to have enough representation​ we have alot of different​ industries and sectors in a large area. How is one person suppose to support mining,farming, transport, small business, large industries, and keep everyone happy.

This is ridiculous it's such a massive area which contributes more to the economy than Brisbane and yet government only wants one person to represent it - ridiculous!

I cannot believe the Government is doing this! It's time Northern Queensland had more representation

Give regional qld the recognition and representation it provides. Our areas Finacial contribution to the economy is surely worth its weight in at least 3 electorates. Prove that regional qld is actually a part of the state's concern and not an insignificant thorn in the governments backside. We aren't going away and you shouldn't continually encourage this unhealthy detachment between regional QLD and the south east corner.

I concur that with the changing demographic of the State it is timely to revisit Electoral District Boundaries. However I do not believe that population, even with a 2% variation of the total Electorate area, is the appropriate determinant for electoral boundaries in the State’s extensive remote areas. The use of population creates areas on parity by population but with significant disparity in the ability of the Elected Member to appropriately service that area and their constituents. Whilst size of an electorate cannot be the primary consideration when determining boundaries, the extensive size of Traegar makes it very difficult for the Elected Member to effectively engage and garner the opinions of his/her constituents, ascertain and maintain knowledge as to the relevance of issues in the Electorate and represent those in Parliament. Conversely, it also makes it difficult for the Elected Member to effectively convey back to his electorate information and messaging from the Queensland Government. The power of representation to and from Parliament is radically decreased. If subjected to the “BBQ Test” i.e. how many functions enabling constituent engagement could an urban MP attend over the course of a weekend in comparison to a rural/remote MP, the number would clearly show the inability of the latter to realistically engage once, let alone repeatedly, with his constituents despite having approximately the same number of constituents. I firmly believe such remote areas would be better distributed if electorates were aligned along common East-West corridors. The East-West polarity reflects connectedness between road infrastructure and, frequently, commonalities in issues, challenges and regional development priorities and opportunities.

The electorate of Mount Isa is 570,502 km2 in size, a hugely vast area. The Dalrymple electorate is 105,337 km2. The State Government is now proposing the electorate of Traeger which will combine both the Mount Isa and Dalrymple electorates, while eliminating a small portion of the southern end of the Mount Isa electorate. This will make the total size of our electorate 490,048 km2, more than double the size of the United Kingdom! We believe we need 3 electorates in this area, not 1.

this should have been an election issue not change the whole nature and spectrum of our representation without our vote ? this is BS
