On the 28th of March 2014, the Brighton University student body was made aware of a very worrying fact; the university lecturers had announced a marking boycott effective on the 28th of April 2014. This essentially means that any working submitted after this date would not be marked.

We believe this to be an unacceptable escalation of protest in regards to their ongoing pay dispute with the university management. They have now decided to take our education hostage, an education that we are paying £9000 a year for. With the issues many of us have already been having with our courses (multiple cancelled lectures, a distinct lack of adequate resources, and an apparent inability to answer emails in a timely fashion just to name a few), the lecturers refusal to now mark any work submitted after April 28th is insulting and reprehensible.

As students, we once stood behind the staff of this university, as we believed their cause to be just. However, this next step in their dispute has put our advancement in our courses, and the third years abilities to graduate, in serious doubt. This is completely and totally unacceptable, and if this continues, the student body may be forced take further measures to show our our disapproval.
