Milton's lack of transparency is compounding the problem. I'm absolutely in support of this. Class of '79

As a member of the class of ‘77, I am angry that Milton is not responding to the subpoena to release the report. Milton’s actions at the time of these crimes were inexcusable: a school should protect its students, not its faculty. Now is the moment to do the right thing.

Milton owes it to the many who have suffered deeply for decades to release the full report. Be true to the motto.

Transparency please

Beau Ryan ('77) is an esteemed classmate who deserves the dignity of not having the serious offenses that were committed against him denied, whitewashed, concealed or swept under the rug in the name of "reputation". Anyhow it's too late for that now; it's time for transparency & justice after all these years. As Mr. Ryan so rightly contends, Milton Academy's 222-year-old motto of "Dare To Be True", an expression of integrity at all costs, must not be allowed to descend to empty hypocrisy, but must be upheld in practice. I was in and worked on several plays with Rey & had him twice as a drama/theatre arts teacher; I saw plenty of concerning behaviors- from scary outbursts of temper aimed at students to encouraging & aiding violations of rules regarding consumption of alcohol & cigarettes. He was always inappropriately curious about the students’ relationships and thoughts on sexual issues; he made a point of trying to be a peer-like buddy to his minor students, eagerly trying to win kids over in what seemed like desperate attempts to be considered on of the “popular kids.” (A distressing practice for an adult man with authority over minors to be focused on...)

I cannot believe this is even still a question. The lack of transparency is hugely concerning from a school that has hidden too much for too long.

I have spent much time over the past 38 years exposing the cover-up of sexual abuse by the Catholic and Southern Baptist churches as well as by schools. Passing predators on to other schools or churches is not uncommon but it is decidedly dishonest and inhumane to every child who falls prey after heads are turned and the truth buried. The only way to stop this scourge is to face it head-on and openly. I am ashamed that my own school — which used to make me proud — has behaved in such a shameful fashion and that Rey Buono is still teaching despite all we know. Release the report. Milton needs to be open and transparent. If there are issues of protecting individuals' privacy, you can always asked them for permission or redact names and identifying details.

I am in full support of this petition and am so tired of their hypocritical motto; shame on you Milton!

Many of us who were at Milton in the 80s are still feeling aggrieved by the actions of faculty at the time, and by Milton’s subsequent reluctance to come clean with the evidence discovered. It is time to make the report public.

No more cover ups. Who knew at the time and did nothing?
