Hello all and thank you for your support for the Enlaces! students. Here is the reply from Dr. Ann McElaney-Johnson:
Dear Brenda: Thank you for your email. I appreciate you and others taking the time to share with us your many experiences with Dr. Alcaraz.
I understand that this kind of transition can be difficult but we will respect Dr. Alcaraz's decision to leave Mount Saint Mary's University. I assure you that the University will continue to do its best to serve the students in this program.

Dr. Alcaraz did so much for the Elances program, it would be a shame to see the program go down just because the university does not reach out to her to come back. I would be begging right now if I were them. If she's gone so is the program. The prestige this program has is because of Dr. Alcaraz. She is a top-notch clinician, professor, and leader. Let your pride down and just ask her to come back. You may think you can hire someone who may take over her leadership, but only she can deliver what was successful among the students because her heart and intelligence cannot be replaced. There is only one Eloiza in this world and MSMU will miss a chance of their lifetime. I was not an Elances student but she always involved everyone into the program. We were her adopted Elances students. She always gave her 100% unconditional love to all of us. Amazing woman!

Dr. Elioza Alcaraz is the #1 reason why I entered the ¡Enlaces! Program. With that said we need her to be reinstated. We already see issues with the program and its only going to get worst.

It is unbelievable the faculty we have for Enlaces right now. The person who took over Enlaces graduated last year from MSMU MFT program and was never an Enlaces student. He can't even speak Spanish, much less teach in Spanish. My 3 yr old niece can speak better Spanish than him! This is not what I signed up for! I'm dropping this program if Dr. Alcaraz is not reinstated. We need her back! Dr. Travis sent out an email that they are "in the process of hiring new graduate psychology faculty with strong SPANISH community connections..." Here is the cultural competency of the director where he refers to the LATINO community as the SPANISH community. I doubt any of us are from Spain. Dr. Travis, we don't refer to you being part of the ENGLISH community. That is culturally incorrect and insensitive. How can a culturally incompetent director hire a culturally competent professor? Bring Dr. Alcaraz back NOW!

Dr. Alcaraz is brilliant, mesmerizing, amazingly competent, and dedicated to the field of psychology. Her compassion for people, children who have been abused, underserved populations, multicultural awareness, and capacity to mentor so many people, as well as her engagement in the community, is an excellent role model for aspiring students who will be therapists one day. Dr. Alcaraz is a wonderful leader and her quality is stellar! I am awed over the blessings I have received from her teaching! PLEASE REINSTATE DR. ALCARAZ!!!

There is something wrong with the psychology department if they did not do their best to keep Dr. Alcaraz. Something big must have happened for a sweet, intelligent, competent professor like Dr. Alcaraz to leave. She is one of the most hard-working persons I know. She is the heart of not only the graduate MFT program-Enlaces, but of the entire university! Enlaces will be over if she is not brought back. She made Enlaces what it is now. No other faculty in the department can be compared to Dr. Alcaraz.

I heard Dr. Alcaraz in a Spanish speaking seminar which she presented in our parish. I was drawn into the Mount on account of her leadership. Initially I sought only a B.S. But after her mentoring I see the potential of obtaining an M.S. As a student I greatly look forward to being part of Enlaces as I expect to work with this population. Dr Alcaraz understands the culture and language. I hope that you will consider our requests. Thank in advance for understanding our needs.

Dr Eloiza was encouraging while I studied at MSMU. She currently serves as a mentor while I work towards licensure. And I plan to continue having her as a resource for her knowledge, expertise and wisdom in culturally sensitive and clinical issues. Please reinstate her so that she may continue to serve the students that need her support.

Bring her back! She made me feel I can do countless things and having the tools from her program and the actual MFT program I will be able to help many people! She is the greatest person whom to follow as a mentor to be able to reach ones career for which we have worked so hard! We need her!!

I was planning to apply to the Enlaces program for Fall 2017. I am NOT APPLYING if Dr. Alcaraz is not there. I attended an Information Session and she's an amazing woman! I will look up which university she's at and will apply there!

Dr. Alcaraz is a much valued, respected and cherished individual. As my former professor and academic advisor she has imparted much of her knowledge and professionalism to all her students. She has been the guiding and pivotal force in lifting up the Enlaces program at MSMU to the academically demanding and highly established program it has become. Dr. Alcaraz has devoted much of her time to helping others, especially her students. She is a significant part of what elevates MSMU to an institution sought after by MFT students seeking to serve Spanish speaking individuals.
