I grew up in Lucas Valley and attended Dixie School, and played baseball for Dixie little league. At no point in my life have I ever associated Dixie School or the name with racism.

I am not pro-Dixie, but I am strongly against diverting education funding toward something so trivial as a name change because Dixie is a trigger word for 0.00000001% of the district. If any CanDo or other school funds are used to change the name, I will reconsider my annual donation.

Our 3 children were educated in the Dixie district. They were NEVER led to believe that they were honoring slavery or the bitter conflict the divided our nation.

I went to Miller Creek Middle School back in the 70's. The school district name has nothing to do with how effective a school is, it's the staff, parents and students that make a school great, not the district name.

I have grown up and still live in Lucas Valley. I attended Dixie School as well as Miller Creek and my son is currently a student at Miller Creek. I think that within this community, the name "Dixie" was redefined long ago and now just represents a fabulous school district. We don't need to overthink this, the name is just fine.

Both our kids went thru Dixie. Never once did I think of it as a Confederate or slavery related name. Names are what we make it.

We moved here because of the Dixie School District and never gave the name a second thought. Why can't we be proud that we have an excellent school district and that the name has transformed into something to be proud of?

I came to TL, age 5 years, in 1955 or 1956. I went to kindergarten at a building at the rec center--part of rec center may be original building! After about half of 1st grad at that location, we walked hand-in-hand to our new school, Santa Margarita! I went to Dixie schools until high school since TL High was part of San Rafael SDist then too I think. I graduated from SRHS.
Never(!!!) dud I ever hear people encouraging us to sing ant southern song with Dixie in it to brainwash us! Some body made this preposterous statement in Next door! I never ever thought it strange or even thought about it at all. I thought it was just some name. I have met women with such a name.
It seems to me that the persons who made this some sort of an example of southern slavery et al complacency and made a few headlines were people just looking for publicity.
Work on your town first! Why attack us?
My mother was a Head Start teacher who taught in SF for awhile, later working as a teacher within the Dixie School District. I cannot even count the number of each kind of protest walk I went on with her as a child.
My father was a liberal with so much heart, it is hard for me to describe. I believe he was the 1st "president"(?) of the Terra Linda Recreation District.
Both so much humanitarians!
I know they would never have chosen to live here if they believed there was rampant prejudice here, nor would my mother have ever worked for the Dixie School District if she thought "Dixie" was a nod to the past southern version, nor would they have allowed me to attend a school in a prejudicial school district.
I really believe the name of our school district is irrelevant.
What is next? Directions, such as turn "south" or an airline's name, "Southwest"? "Southern" California? And one could go on and on.
Keep our school district's name alone unless the majority of persons living within/parent with children attending schools in the Dixie School District show they are unhappy with the name.

I have lived in Terra Linda 50 plus years my children went to school in the Dixie district. Waste of money to change. Reason for a change seems very racial.
