We the following Washoe County School District Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Speech-Language Pathologists/Therapists are not happy with our current status in the Washoe Education Association (WEA). We as a group of professionals feel that our interests are not being effectively served by the WEA at this point in time, and we urge the WEA to consider our shared viewpoint.
We are currently classified as Other Licensed Educational Professionals (OLEPs) and are paid on the same salary schedule as teachers. We believe that our education credentials and licensure requirements set us apart from teachers in a substantial way, yet this is not clearly defined in our current contract, nor is it reflected in our pay. We would like better explanation of our job duties, caseload limits, hours, working conditions, and reimbursement, or we as a group may request separation from the WEA in order to better represent our professional interests.

FINALLY. Someone is saying it. We are not teachers and we shouldnt be treated like we are.
Enough is enough. We need our own representation.
Occupational Therapist. Tired of being ignored.
The salary schedule just doesnt reflect the masters degree and clinical hours we have to maintain.
Our caseloads are out of control and the union doesnt seem to have a clue how different our days are compared to teachers.
Speech-Language Pathologist
We need better representation of our duties, skills and interests!
