The safety of staff members and their families should be just as important as student safety. There should be a firm plan in place before physically going back to school happens, especially if we have to trust that other families are taking this pandemic seriously, because some definitely are not.

I have heard WCSF a supporting teachers as they teach online. Keep up that good work; and until we have greater understanding and treatment for the coronavirus, please continue distance learning.

As a parent, I agree that it is not safe for teachers to be in class 100%. However, my concern is that younger children are not learning well via remote learning, and I am especially concerned about incoming kindergarteners. How is this possibly going to work? I believe teachers and schools are an essential service and we HAVE TO come up with a solution that keeps our children from falling behind.
Would it be possible to schedule 30-minute virtual instruction/check-in zoom calls in smaller groups or even individually with the younger kids?
Additionally, there are no guarantees that ANYONE will have sufficient stream of PPE supplies, so my suggestion would be start purchasing supplies now and make sure each classroom has enough for the entire school year.

A return to school with utter disregard for the rising case numbers would be misguided and indicate a level of tolerance of unmanageable health risk for students, school staff and their families. Time and resources invested in "safety" could be instead be dedicated to more robust distance learning. Also, no return to school plan would be complete without a contingency for positive cases in a school population.

Don’t let the federal government bully our districts into opening before it is safe! This should be an issue decided by the heath officials and that the teachers and union get to weigh in on.

Children are only passing the virus less than adults because they are all quarantined at home. Most families do not take their children anywhere in public. As soon as children are free to interact with others as adults do, they will be spreading the virus like crazy and likely getting sick themselves. If the world is not safe for adults at work, then children should not be put at risk by attending school.
Additionally, the majority of professions are requiring people to work from home. Teachers should not have to expose themselves and their family members by doing their job in person. Many have babies, compromised immune systems, are older, or have family members who fall into the aforementioned categories.
School is unsafe for all.
