The locals have a right to the beach. They know the history and all that. Preservation is also a key factor in their minds since they are thinking of mending the dreadful road to the beach so as to facilitate smoother flows of tourists, both domestic and international. The Beach was left over to the community by Mr.Brown, I dont see any problem with that, Government behave and let Winnifred continue to be. God Bless Portland and its people, The Battle is on !

Winifred beach should remain free and undeveloped for the local community, peoples' livelihoods depends on it, this is a very poor community despite all the privatised beaches and properties all around. It is a scandal the government is trying to privatise this one remaining community amenity.

I'm an American who has visited Jamaica many, many times. I fully support the Winnifred Beach Committee and the Jamaican people in their fight to protect and preserve Winnifred Beach for use as intended when it was donated for public use and enjoyment by Mr. Brown. There are WAY too many tourist resorts springing up on Jamaica and there is no need for another one at this location. Let the people of Jamaica enjoy their beaches and their heritage. God knows they deserve it. Urban Development Committee ~ As a tourist I would NEVER visit a resort hotel built on this beach and would actively encourage other tourists not to visit it as well. I love Jamaica and I do not want to rob the Jamaican people of their right to enjoy their own country.

my young children and my family are from england, husband portland born and come yearly for holiday. i dont not what we would do i this beach was not here for us to freely use in the future forit is a legacy passed down to us. it is the only safe beach for young children in portland as shallow and still. my son nearly drowned in frenchmans cove at age 3. the children are around their true heritage here as you have so many locals here keeping a traditional jamaican vibe with music , food, ars and crafts and activities which are not available at the neighbouring beaches which are under different managment every minute meaning prices are inflated! we cannot afford these prices and thankful we can enjoy winifred every single day without going thirsty and hungry and peace of mine our children are safe and happy. if we lose this beach there would be no incentive for us to come to portland anymore as this beach is the heart of our holiday. please help us to keep our beach and let us keep this only one left which is child friendly and accessible for us all regardless of status, class, culture, race, age or background..it is beach that is rich in diversity and inclusive of all even those children who may not have the money to pay to enter but certainly the right to opportunity and happiness which is what we sould be striving for here in every corner if jamaica.

I'm standing with you as I'm tired of being sold out by our government. When are we going to learn to look at the big picture and stop destroying this beautiful earth we've been given?????

Over my dead body. Enough of this already. The UDC needs to go get a handle on all of its lost-making entities elsewhere.

Please keep the beach free from developments for the indegenious people and the travelers willing,to experience a true Jamaica, it would a travesty to prohibit access by the locals due to,a profit based development.
