Disappointed that tonight's meeting started with all conversation about the benefits of sleep which I don't think that anyone debates. The challenge is the best way to achieve this for all students.

This is ubsurd for multiple reasons and will force young families like me out of the district. High schoolers have sports and jobs and need to get out in the early afternoon to accomplish this. Many of our youngest children need to be cared for after school, which will extend their after school program for up to 4 hours. That is another half of an adult work day! Needless to say, they will have to go to bed as soon as they get home to get enough sleep and won't have any time at home with their parents. The youngest children need this time, as opposed to the teenagers that for the most part aren't home regardless. The teenagers are much more flexible and adaptable than six to 10 year olds that need time at home with family and ample sleep at night. This is a terrible idea!

Currently at greenwood and love the early start time. Kids are home early enough to do homework and eat before evening activities.

I moved here for a better quality of life..how is that achievable if my elementary school kids need to go to bed by 7? Even having family dinners together would be impossible.

It is obvious that more sleep leads to better attention in class. It is also obvious that you can go to bed earlier if you want. There is no compelling reason to change anything. And you are messing with everyone's schedule to pander to a vocal minority.

To be completely honest, I don't have an opinion on the start times and which time is best for which age. I've had children in two elementary schools with different start times, middle school, and high school and there are pros and cons to each. What is most concerning is the district leadership putting together another "expert" driven solution of their choosing with the intent to ram it down the throats of parents. They ignored the need for a new elementary school by "expert" driven population forecasts that were wrong every time they used the expert. 10+ years too late they decide to build a new school after gerrymandering neighborhoods and busing kids all over the district. As a taxpayer, I'm happy they take their fiscal responsibilities seriously but as a parent, I wish they would use a more balanced approach to decision making in addition to honestly and openly including a very broad group of parents in the early discussions. Don't give me the research you choose as the "research-aligned" scenario. There is research that supports other scenarios. I'm very concerned on the Board's decision making process and have lost all confidence in Mr Anderson.

My 2nd greater sleeps till 8, I am against earlier start time for elementary. Kids with older siblings are often getting dragged to activities at night and need their sleep as well. We are such a large district with residents who pay quite a lot in taxes. Therefore I believe its best to follow oh her districts that have added buses in order to change high school time without affecting elementary time. I do agree high school start time should be later than current time.

No child should have to take a bus at 6:45am and that too in the Minnesota winters.
