WaxTrax! is virtually synonymous with Chicago circa the 1980s. The Lincoln Ave. store was a landmark for the disenfranchised at the time well before being considered a historical landmark today.

In the 1987 I was able to get to Wax Trax!!! Records and take part in a cultural change in music in Chicago… It’s changed what music is to me everday…

The music that came out of WAX TRAX! RECORDS had a major impact on my when I was growing up. It caused me to fall in love with Chicago. I moved to this city from the NYC area in the year 2000. WAX TRAX! RECORDS was a major part of that decision.

Wax Trax really put Chicago on the map for me in the early 90s. As much as Detroit is recognized as the home of techno--a musical genre which thrives today--Chicago is, aside from house music, the mecca of industrial electronic music. It is renowned the world over as the home of many of the bands that had an impact on the music of today, most of which continue to carry influence with musical scholars and fans alike. Wax Trax is the record label that championed this sound, and designating the building a landmark would be wholly appropriate. A small gesture for a pivotal contributor to Chicago's identity and culture beyond sports.

The world is a better place with Wax Trax adn all the bands they signed, promoted and supported. I cut my teeth on industrial music listening to anything singed to the Wax Trax label.

Wax Trax! Records and their store were a lifeline to this quiet, introverted young adult from Iowa. Spent most of my extra student loan money on driving the 6 hours from college to visit the store every chance I got! Felt like home to me — and the people inside (staff, artists, customers) were my “family”. Please preserve this Chicago cultural landmark!

The legacy of Jim and Dannie means so much to so many people. This storefront stands as a physical representation of the work they did not only for the arts community, but also of their charitable work involving the LGBTQ+ community, HIV/Aids Awareness and prevention, and Animal Rights. For many people who live outside of Chicago, this storefront is their positive association with the city and people travel to visit it bringing tourism dollars to the city making the preservation of the storefront a rewarding pursuit not only for those associated with WaxTrax, but for all Chicagoans and for Art enthusiasts worldwide.
