Dear Chicago Department of Planning and Development,
The WaxTrax store at 2449 N. Lincoln Avenue was the epicenter of a new, inclusive, and diverse music scene. Drawing from House, Punk, and other genres, Industrial music would forever re-shape the alternative music landscape.
For myself, an artsy "weird" teen from an abusive home in Indiana, the WaxTrax building was a necessary stop on trips to Chicago—a sort of mecca for people like me where everyone was welcome and weird was celebrated.
To be sure, the inventory was extensive and mind-blowing, but simply spending time in the store itself felt special and important. It acted as a magnet, not only for myself, but countless other fans and several musical artists (regardless of genre).
Even now, at 51 years old, I remain a fan of the music and the people involved in its creation. In fact, I have found that WaxTrax fans feel a sense of community with one another that transcends time.
The WaxTrax legacy cannot be overstated. The building on North Lincoln served as a beacon to myself and many others when we needed it most. I ask that the City of Chicago preserve it as a landmark for future generations.

Wax Trax! is an important part of Chicago's music history and is known worldwide. The store, label, and founders were a huge influence on artists, culture, and kids like me back then and still today. It's former location deserves protected status.

I was a little late to the party but once I became aware of WaxTrax! I frequented the store. My 4AD collection still pulls me back to the days of wandering over, perusing, buying, heading straight home to play my newest finds. I am grateful this gem was part of my life, though I missed the heydays.

Love Wax Trax & I will always support the label for making music much more interesting with the likes of MINISTRY, KMFDM, FRONT 242, MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO & DIE WARZAU which I’ve met & discovered that inspiration through these artists is a positive footnote in the life of anybody looking for direction & purpose!

Irrefutable, irreplaceable center of the maelstrom of independent, vibrant art, music and creativity. The Lincoln Park situs brought the world closer and allowed any visitor, customer or denizen to feel a special vibe. Yeah, it was incredible. It was unique. Please preserve the indelible fountainhead of the indie art, music and aura of the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Wax Trax was always a sought-after destination. Bought many albums there and was always envious of the neon Joy Division sign. Wax Trax lives on in our memories
