Dear Dr. Terranova and Members of the Board of Education,
We are signing this petition to urge you to hire an additional teacher for the 2012-13 1st grade class. As you know class sizes were extremely high in kindergarten with some classes having 26 children. As a community we have voted to support a school budget that adds additional sections to keep class size low. Even with an 11th section added, 1st grade class size has risen over the last month to 23 children per class. This does not include children who will add as the school year continues. Adding a 12th section of 1st grade will bring class size down to 21 children per class and allow space for new students. This will provide an environment more conducive to learning.

The stories coming in from parents suggest these class sizes are creating a significant hurdle for our youngest learners. I am currently reaching out to school board members to demand a conversation about these numbers before they finalize the staffing plans. Your persistence in bringing attention to this issue is the only thing keeping the conversation alive.

The momentum surrounding our request for a smaller class size reflects a deep shared commitment to the learning environment of our children. Seeing this level of engagement confirms that our neighbors believe in the necessity of a twelve section structure for the upcoming year.

26 kids in a kinder class is just way too many. how are they supposed to learn anything with that much noise? please fix this before first grade gets worse.
fix the class sizes now.
23 kids is too much for one teacher to handle. its not fair to the kids or the teacher.
THESE ARE 6 YEAR OLDS. keeping class sizes small is the bare minimum for our kids safety and education.
Ridiculous to pack them in like sardines. The board needs to listen to the parents and stop ignoring the budget we voted on.
