Washington Resolution - Charleston County Council

Sirs, Please remove the race/slave issue from this Proclamation to honor the founder of this country. General George Washington did lead the start of this country to be the most free nation in this modern world! End the destructive political divide and pass this resolution to honor the father of this country, NOW!

I do not understand why we would have to do this. He is the father of our country!

Get real! Yes to GW. Or gp home!

I am disappointed that County Council refused to adopt this Resolution. Please do the right thing and honor our first Presigent

We should honor all of our founders, Washington tops that list.

I support Mr. Kobrovsky’s resolution. Loose sight on history you will loose what made this country great. God bless our history.

Come ON, Charleston Country Council -- STOP EMBARRASSING YOURSELF. What is the next thing you are going to do? Tear down a 125 year old monument like Tecklenberg did with Calhoun with he got in political trouble? He will NOT be forgiven for that in the next election and neither will YOU. Act like you still have some honor and patriotism.

I support Mr Kobrovsky's resolution to honor President George Washington by resolution. I value our history and those who were instrumental in leading to secure the liberty we have enjoyed for 247 years. I pray the council choose this day whom they will serve. Our heritage must stand with reminders always of sacrifices made for all the people. May God continue to bless South Carolina.

I can't believe that this would actually take a petition to jump start this resolution, but count me among the many who feel that it should not be controversial to honor our first President.

Shameful

By any objective standard George Washington is the father of our country. He could have opted to become a king but rather was a modem day Cincinnatus who gave up his sword to lead the Founding Fathers in the establishment of a representative republic.

President George Washington is richly deserving of our praise and remembrance.

Please honor Pres. George Washington, Father of Our Country.

This is a disgrace to Charleston County and our country. Everyone who voted not to do this should have to explain why they voted no.

Having been a staunch historian for all of my 74 years, and having co-owned a Land Surveying business for 47 years, the first name that comes to my mind is George Washington. Without his leadership to shepherd the battle against the British and to help create documents by which our freedom was founded, I doubt our country would have survived. Show your Patriotism and honor Washington!

Councilmembers, The failed resolution to George Washington should have been opportunity for you to acknowledge your understanding and appreciation of a facet of America’s political beginnings. The government-by-the-people civic functions of County Council are in place and are generally successful and progressive due to the actions and influences of early leaders, chief among them General and President George Washington. No attempt now to correct Council’s inaction of the March meeting will hide the effect “cancel culture” has had on this and other levels of American self-governance. Let’s trust, though, that light shown on that failure will open the eyes of more Americans.
