The flags are part of history, and a part of Robert E. Lee. Let them remain.

I doubt if anyone is aware that WL remodeled the room General Lee died in (Presidents House), tore out the wall which was next to his bed and put in sliding doors and steps so people could more easily walk to the backyard for social functions. The room no longer bears any resemblance to what it look like in 1870 and has lost its historical significance.

While we're at it, lets start a petition to make Germany lift the ban on Nazi Symbols. They're a part of history garsh darn it. The people that complain about stuff like this are just whiners.

I agree about their ignorance! Who did they think the school was named after? Also, history is history. It is the past. You cannot go back and rewrite it because it upsets 6 thugs.

If the 6 are so upset, let them go to another school. Obviously they knew who the school was named. They must not study or keep their grades up because they are too busy causing civil disobedience. Toss them out not the flags!

I am absolutely appalled to think that an institute of higher learning , in particular VMI , would bow to this po blackmail. It's bad enough to lose flags, monuments etc, at cemeteries .museums, and other historically significant places but to lose them at This institution for these circumstances is unforgiveabless ! As VMI is a place of heritage and history so are these flags that you want to take away. What will you, allow re interment of General Lee and Traveler or possibly the name of the school to Virginia Cowardice Institute ?? Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it ??!! I say leave the flags and remove the people who made this decision. Surely this is not alright with your alumni !)

If you remove the flags, you not only dishonor Lee, but the school will disgrace itself. KEEP the flags!!

Put them back. Don't try to erase history because a few don't like it. They knew they were there when they choose this wonderful university. If they don't like it, there are plenty of other universities they can attend.

Let the flags be with Gen. Lee where they belong. If some students have issues with them, they need to go elsewhere. If they claim their ignorance of the flags and the university's connection to them,, they're too dumb to be there. The worst thing any institution can do is to ignore or remove honesty in history just to please a few who would complain about a hangnail. Escort the complainers off of the campus.

“Any society which suppresses the heritage of its conquered minorities, prevents their history or denies them their symbols, has sown the seeds of their own destruction.” Sir William Wallace, 1281 It is indeed perplexing to me that Washington and Lee University would bend its knees to such an outrageous an ridiculous bunch as the so called "committee". It is obvious to the rest of us that the once venerated W&L as been usurped by scalawags of the absolute worst caliber. Your cowardice is a stain upon the University and those two great Americans which you laud as the ideal American archetype. You have placed yourselves squarely in the ranks of Brutus, Arnold, and Judas. You have sold your heritage and honour for thirty pieces of silver. Your idea is not to do what is correct but what is convenient at the time to shield your own backsides. You betrayed your trust as guardians of the university and its history for the sake of political correctness in the face of the same degenerates that ransacked W&L's campus in 1864 as well as defaced the statue of Washington upon your very grounds. Hardly fitting for a righteous liberating army of the Lord is it? One could also cited the numerous atrocities committed against the civilian population of the South; black and white alike, at the hands of these heathens. Return our flags forthwith! Redeem in yourselves what honour you may have. Let the usurpers and their ilk whine bellow and howl. Do not further subject the American people north or south to the slavery of political correctness, whose yoke is with desperation being applied to every man, woman, and child that calls themselves citizen of the United States of America. The choice is yours. Yet remember there are many who will in no wise forget what is being done and what your decisions cost. When enough money ceases to be deposited from tuitions and enrollment falls it will be your jobs on the line. When that day arrives may the state motto of Old Dominion herself ring i

Truth is not subject to the opinions of individuals, neither is history open to being re-written by the ignorant and intolerant.

Either return the Confederate flags honoring Gen. Lee, or remove the flags honoring slave owner President George Washington. This is not about slavery or the US Federal Flag would be brought down as well. Don't say that the KKK sometimes used the Battle Flag unless you mention that they ALWAYS use the US Federal Flag and the Christian Flag. This is not about slavery or truth.. It is an act of Cowardness to make a few graduates "feel good" about desecrating a Confederate General's final resting place, while not condemning a slave owning President as well.
