On March 8, 2014, a video was published on YouTube by Gameplanet. The video itself is an on camera interview with Blizzard's newest Creative Director, Alex Afrasiabi. In the video, at 6 minutes and 10 seconds, Alex begins discussing how flight, albeit a cool feature, is only really wanted by about 50% of the playerbase. This statement runs in conjunction with statements made by other Blizzard Employees discussing how flight will NOT be added into the next expansion, Warlords of Draenor.

After contacting the employee via Twitter, it was confirmed the intent to unlock flying in the first major content patch was scrapped, and they will now "wait and see" how players respond to the lack of flying, allowing them to gather enough data, in my opinion based on the discussion, to determine if it is viable to remove all flying from the game. At this time, their primary focus is to get a playable Alpha into the hands of the players, but did not deny the allegation that flight will not be a part of the new expansion, or future expansions.

If this test goes unnoticed by enough players, Blizzard will have all of the "data" they need to justify removing it from the game entirely by the launch of the expansion following Warlords of Draenor. If you have spent hours, money, or both collecting flying mounts, now is your time to stand up and be heard before this feature is completely removed from the game.
