Thomas Jr. Councilmember of the District of Columbia 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Suite 107 Washington, DC 20004 Dear Councilmember Thomas, "We, Ward 5'ers for Transparency, an alliance of concerned Ward 5 residents, and other concerned residents of the District of Columbia, urge you to prioritize transparency and residents’ concerns regarding the ongoing allegation of misappropriation of funds by entities associated with you (for-profit organization HLT Team Thomas/Swing Away LLC and non-profit Team Thomas) which has raised approximately $200,000 during your time on the council. Transparency must remain one of the top priorities of elected officials in the District of Columbia. You campaigned hard on fighting against political backdoor deals and “cronyism”. We explicitly request that you: •Disclose all the appropriate financial documents in accordance with the subpoena by the court ordered date, and •Answer the subpoena in a comprehensive and detailed manner that leaves no question as to where the funds have been distributed A better understanding of transactions in this matter is essential to all residents of Ward 5 and the District in continuing to believe in your capacity to lead.
