Wallsend Boys’ Club Appeal to Save Our Youth Services

I would like to ask you for your support in helping our campaign to save Wallsend Boys’ Club Youth Services from likely closure.

Wallsend Boys’ Club, which has been on the same site in Station Road Wallsend for almost 50 years, is facing a crisis on 2 fronts that is threatening to end the Club’s Youth Provision work in the community that addresses anti-social behaviours, crime and drug related issues.

Our Building

On 5th January high winds caused part of the Boys’ Club building to collapse. The Club has been closed since this incident and has now been deemed unsafe either to re-use or to re-build. Without the Club building, Wallsend Boys’ Club can no longer generate the income from football pitch hire that is required to provide the community youth services. The Club are also unable to pay the 7 full time and part time staff that delivers these services.

Our Funding

The second crisis facing the Club in 2012 is that the funding for the Club’s work in all areas has substantially declined as a result of a reduction in the both the number of grants received and the amounts of these grants. Traditionally, Wallsend Boys’ Club has received funding from public organisations and bodies such as;

¨       North Tyneside Council

¨       Northumbria Police

¨       The Primary Care Trust

¨       Catch22

¨       Sub21

¨       Etc, etc, etc.

All of these bodies continue to support Wallsend Boys’ Club, but the combination of the reduction in grant funding and the loss of pitch hire income means that all of the Club’s youth based work, which has been built painstakingly over a number of years, faces a very swift end.

I am currently talking to North Tyneside Council about a number of possible solutions to create both a temporary home and to find a longer-term solution for our building. We also need their assistance in funding the staff that deliver the crucial youth work on weekday evenings and at weekends. In the meantime, I desperately need your help and support in 2 ways:

1         Please sign our on-line petition that we intend to present to all of the organisations and bodies who may provide future funding. Our petition will call on these bodies to provide, maintain and/or increase their current level of financial aid. You can find the Petition online using this link… http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/wallsend-boys-club/

2         Subscribe to our mailing list by signing the Petition in order that we can keep you up to date with our Appeal and so that we may call on you to ask for further help and support in publicising our Appeal.

Wallsend Boy’s Club is a charitable organisation that has relied on the time and generosity of an enormous number of people over many generations to run and manage its activities. Its place in our community has a long heritage and it will be able to continue to be a vital resource in the community, for the community if you provide your support now.

Please sign our petition now at..... http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/wallsend-boys-club/

If you would like to make a donation or contribute through gift aid we would be very grateful. Please be patient as we will be setting up a system to accomodate this through our website shortly, which will go directly to Wallsend Boys' Club Youth Provision Fund.

Thank You!

Steve Dale
