I am hoping that there is a change in the current polices that are in place having to do with heaviness of weighted grades, instructor guidance, additional pertinent learning resources (such a live lectures) and ability to view questions that were missed on exams, including rationales. Though I graduated from the PMHNP in August 2018, I do not feel as if my final course grades in 6650 through 6670 were reflexive of my effort in the class, as I did well on assignments and failed all exams. If a majority of students are doing well in courses and then fail the exams, this is showing me that the exams are flawed in some way. For the benefit of future Walden students, it is our suggestion that weight of exams be assessed.

I agree and support this petition. Two tests should not determine if you pass or fail a class.

I would like to have lectures that we can watch or listen to that cover what the exams are on. I also feel that it should be weighted differently, giving those exams lower the percentage of our grade so much.
I read everything that is assigned and don’t have any time to re-read any chapter with the clinical hours, assignments for both clinical and classroom along with having to work.
When students go into exams fearing that if they don’t do well they could have to repeat the course regardless of their body of work, it’s not beneficial for anyone nor does it provide any opportunity to learn and grow.
I hope to see some change, if not during my time, then soon for future students.

Historically exams are given students are provided with incorrect answers so that they may use this to seek and understand WHY a specific question was incorrect. That is learning!! Lectures should be recorded so that students can see. I have attended an online program and each class have either video or voice recording. Also I don’t understand the point of posting on 3 days. I figure as long as the information is completed then it should be fine. I have had a difficult time here and have to pay thousands of dollars for a program that really doesn’t seem to invest more into their students. I say consider revamping how information is disseminated.

The exams should match the course. If the examines are what we need to cover then it should be covered in the class.

If tests are going to be weighted so much, please give us the opportunity at least the chance to do well by teaching us or at least make the readings relevant to the tests.

I enthusiastically agree with all of these comments, but I will like to say that all exams in all the courses should be adjusted. In 6630, I did well on nearly all of the weekly decision trees and discussions, but thanks to not doing well on the midterm and with it being weighted so heavily, I am in a precarious position with my grade. As stated in the petition, the exams should be more of a learning experience in preparation for the board exams instead of a knowledge test on a very broad and very extensive body of knowledge.
Thank you.

I agree with this Petition. The exams carry too much weight. One could go from an A to a C after just the midterm. Not fair at all.

We put a tremendous amount of effort into every single week of our courses. The exams are not reflective of our knowledge whatsoever. When our professors comment how difficult the exams are and that they cannot even pass successfully, something is clearly wrong. The exam structure is what gives Walden University a tarnished reputation.

We are paying Walden University a large amount of money to prepare us to pass the Boards and to be successful as practitioners. These exams are not helpful without access to the rationales as Jordan has explained. The exams need to be changed and the weight of them as well.
