The crystal pure water of our famous Wakefield Spring is possibly in jeopardy as a result of the complex extension to Highway 5.  The proposed highway will be built on top of the Valle Verde/Brown's Lake aquifer which appears to be the source of the Spring.  This is Wakefield’s only source of potable water, and used extensively by many surrounding populations beyond our community.

We respectfully request that a comprehensive environmental, economic and social assessment of the Valle Verde/Brown's Lake aquifer and its link to the Wakefield Spring be completed immediately prior to any work being undertaken on the highway extension.  This should be done in a completely transparent manner with public input.
