proud member of AEA. The Proposed Opportunities for Los Angeles Membership is a ridiculously flawed plan that will crush the vibrant theater scene in Los Angeles, remove workplace protections for Equity members, and discourage actors from joining, or maintaining their membership, in AEA.
I have been a member of AEA since 1981. I am completely against this unconscionable move to restrict my ability to continue to hone my art in my home town.

Those proposing this are not doing the work of the members. This is not in our best interest, and all I can think is that they are completely out of touch with the LA theatre scene.

i am not in Equity but am in SAG-AFTRA, and have done many shows in L.A. Not every theater actor gets to work at The Ahmanson, the Taper or Geffen.

If Equity goes through with this I will be adopting the phrase "LA is not a theatre town" and will encourage others to do the same.

AEA member. Totally opposed to this proposal. Anyone who argues that 99-seat producers are making money in LA is woefully misinformed. My theater company, which has been a mainstay on "Theater Row" for 15 years, is about to lose its lease, making it the third established company to go homeless in the past 18 months. This plan will only up the bleeding. Bad idea.

Art, all art, is a gift to the masses. As an actor I should be able to choose to give that gift, and to have my compensation come in the form of my choosing, which does not have to be financial.

I am a member of AEA. The 99-Seat theatre scene is my life's blood. I cannot imagine Los Angeles if the proposed changes take place. The AEA proposal is out-of-touch, condescending, and does nothing to raise wages, increase jobs, or improve working conditions. It is a sad and disturbing attack on the art of theatre.
