I am currently on a self-imposed "suspended status" from AEA and have NO plans on EVER paying dues again if this union chooses to take from me (and thousands of other talented actors) what we hold so dear - the right to CHOOSE how we are remunerated for our work. Let's band together and show AEA that we will NOT sit down and take this, we WILL fight.

Proud AEA member but I'm NOT in support of the proposed changes. L.A. Theater thrives and needs the 99 seat plan. please consider the effects this discussion will have on not only on the theaters and actors but the guest who support us.

The 99-Seat Plan has been the life blood of theatre in L.A. A vibrant, audacious, creative and frequently brilliant theatre scene has been thriving for the past thirty years allowing actors, writers and directors to grow and take risks. The people who are sponsoring the plan to kill the small 99 seat theatre do not understand theatre in L.A. and do not understand the economics of this city.

I am a member of AEA and The Antaeus Company in Los Angeles. Please, please, please do not destroy our beautiful and vibrant Theatre community here in LA. This proposed new plan will force the majority of small theaters to shut their doors - and for what? To give artists fewer opportunities than they already have? To ensure that the greatest ensemble pieces ever written never see the light of day again? Please don't stop us from creating and sharing our work with our community. Art is about so much more than just a paycheck, it always has been.... if the current AEA Councilors have lost touch with or are simply uninformed about what our work is truly contributing to the community (and to our artistic fulfillment), then please, please make the effort to come out and actually SEE what we in the 99-seat world are doing before destroying it. I beg you.

I am a 30 year member of Equity. I have even made money and earned years of vesting in the Union. I am so against this proposed plan that should Equity decide, against the wishes of the local rank and file, to implement it, if someone were to sue the union as a class action filing, I will happily join in the action.

I have been an AEA member for over 40 years. The 99 Seat Theatre Plan in Los Angeles not only provides a place for members to try out new characters but also gives actor-writers a platform to judge a play in front of an audience. I now live in New Orleans and find that too many theatres here are not becoming affiliated with our Union. Let producers at least be answerable to our rules. It has worked for many years.
