To: GREENFIELD PLANNING BOARD Petition to advise Planning Board members that original plan for store was 165,000 and was generously reduced to 135,000 sf. Some of us believe 135,000 is fine, others believe 125,000 is large enough. We may not agree on how big it should be, but we totally agree that 80,000 sf is too small. DON'T APPROVE A SMALL FOOTPRINT FOR A LARGE COUNTY. We realize that appointed officials must make difficult and unpopular decisions in these dire economic times. As you make your decision, please remember : -People need jobs -Jobs come with insurance, education and 401K benefits -A high percentage of the county lives in poverty -Shopping locally increases restaurant and movie sales -Main Street will have more foot traffic -Businesses willing to be open other than 10 am - 5 pm is important -We have had two department stores at one time not in the downtown -We have had 2 elections that overwhelmingly proved residents want this project to move forward -WE FEEL THAT A SMALL GROUP IS HOLDING THE CITY HOSTAGE -WE DO NOT LIKE TO BE TOLD WHAT, WHEN, WHY OR WHERE WE SHOP When you break down the 90+ people who spoke out negatively about this project, the majority want the traffic issues seriously researched. A smaller group didn't like the design. An even smaller group wanted it smaller and the remaining few don't want it at all. This group is far from the majority of the town, never mind the county. Sincerely, The Undersigned
