Vote16 Peninsula
Vote16 is a national initiative that aims to extend voting rights to 16- and 17-year-olds in municipal and school board elections.
Recent events have shown us that young people’s voices are powerful. Lowering the voting age in local elections would ensure that local politicians listen to young voices and address their concerns. In addition, school board policies and local issues affect young people just as much as adults in the community, and young people have the passion and knowledge to make educated and informed voting decisions to improve their communities.
Why Vote16? Extending voting rights to 16 year-olds to vote has been proven to increase voter turnout, strengthen our democracy, and encourage voter habit. So far, Vote16 has been implemented in three American cities (most recently in Berkeley, CA) as well as multiple countries abroad with incredibly successful results.
We want to bring Vote16 to the Bay Area Peninsula and are hoping to gauge the interest levels in the community. Please sign our petition if Vote16 is an initiative that you'd like to see in your community!
