We, as students at the Virginia Tech, recognize the importance of this presidential election on November 4, 2008. Thus, we are asking for the cancellation of classes on that day.
Without the time constraints of classes, students will be able to go to the polls in Blacksburg or drive home to cast their votes. By freeing the students' schedules, the administration and faculty of VT will be sending a message indicating the significance of students' actively participating in the electoral process. We do not wish to undermine the importance of attending classes; however, we are in fact acknowledging through formal means direct permission to refrain from attending class in the name of our civic duties.
We thank you for your support in honoring one of our most valued traditions and duties as citizens.

I have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the Office of the Provost to discuss how class schedules conflict with voting access. We are currently drafting a letter to the Faculty Senate to encourage a unified policy on excused absences for election day.

Please just give us the day off. The lines are going to be insane and I have three labs. Junior.

Voting is way more important than 50 minutes of sitting in a chair. Senior here.

Voting is a basic right. Having a midterm on election day is honestly ridiculous. Class of 2011
