I am not in support of Utah SB182 & HB235.
If these bills pass it would:
1) NOT result in the revenue desired. For the large companies you seek taxes from would follow their history of just cutting off the bloggers in our state rather than deal with the extra time, cost, and hassle of collecting/paying taxes.
2) Harm my business as a blogger (since a large % of my current income and projected income are tied up in my affiliate work)
3) Harm my family. (who rely on the income I bring in through my blog)
4) Harm 10,000 other bloggers in the state of Utah who would suffer from major loss of income
5) Hurt the State coffers. Why? Less income means less income taxes, less spending, more financial assistance needed, and more people having to move out of state. Loose/Loose
6) Harm Bloggers in other states (for what Utah does many other states are soon to follow)
7)Harm online businesses which our economy as a state and nation depend on.

Please do not pass this bill! Tens of thousands of small business owners and bloggers will directly affect them! Isn't it one of Gov Herbert's biggest goals for the state of the economy to create more jobs for it's citizens? If this bill passes this will force many of us hard working individuals who depend on online affiliate marketing to support our businesses and families to quit and close our blogs or businesses.

This bill would be detrimental to my small business. A majority of my income comes from affiliate sales and losing this income would be a hard hit to our family's finances.

Currently I don't make much on my blog but what I do make comes from Affiliate Marketing. If this bill passes as is, I will be set back to square one with my blog and I won't be able to grow it to the business I want it to be. This bill needs to be killed in order for it to be rewritten in such a way as it doesn't affect the 10,000 plus bloggers as well as the countless other affiliate marketers that work with social media, YouTube, and other outlets to rely on their income. I'm not against sales tax. I'm against pitting this against hard working Utahns who love their state and will lose earnings that they pay income tax on and or be forced to leave the state and into a state where they can continue to make a living.

I am against SB182 & HB235 as written. The current version would have devastating consequences for those using affiliate marketing like bloggers (i.e. UTAH business owners many who make a full time salary (and often employ others). We're not just mom's making pocket change as so often depicted). Please take the time to understand affiliate marketing and the consequences similar bills have had in other states.

Utah deserves their sales tax revenue. This is a problem! And something needs to be done. Unfortunately, THIS IS NOT IT!!
I run Utah Sweet Savings and this bill will put me out of business. Out of State companies have proven time and time and time again that when this kind of legislation is crafted and enacted, they sever the ties with the site owner and we lose all ability to make an income.
Unfortunately, that also means that the state of Utah still will not receive the internet sales tax. And tens of thousands of Utahans will be hurt by these bills.
They must not pass!

As a blogger this negatively impacts my business. I am not an employee of these companies. I am a small business owner. If this law passes these companies will simply pull their affiliate programs from Utah. Instead of being able to pay taxes to Utah on the income I earn, there simply won't be anything at all. This is a loss for Utah with no gains whatsoever.

Please don't pass this bill. I've seen the negative effect it has on bloggers in other states. Online retailers simply pull their affiliate programs from those states.

Please truly learn what you're passing before you push this forward. In no way are we employees for these online companies, this will do nothing but hurt the state of Utah and so many small businesses!

I do not sell, warehouse, ship or distribute any products in the state of Utah. Additionally, I do not market to anyone living in Utah, yet these bills claims that I do business in Utah, which lawmakers claim gives them to right to collect sales tax for online purchases for every citizen in Utah. This is outright unconstitutional. Additionally, as a new resident to Utah, I would have never moved here if a Nexus law, such as this, was in affect. These bills will not only cause many affiliates (including myself) to move out of state, it will prevent affiliates from moving in. The loss of income taxes from affiliates alone should be enough to stop these bills from moving forward. Education in the state is already underfunded, the lack of additional income taxes from affiliates will only add fuel to the fire.
