A homeless shelter in K-Mart Plaza? A homeless shelter in the K-Mart Plaza at Camino De Estrella is a risk to the safety of our children, value of our property and community development. Is this what we hope to see at this retail location on the northern gateway to San Clemente? There must be a better solution.

If you are opposed to this, it is important that San Clemente see opposition from our local community and being present at the May 7th meeting at City Hall will let them know our neighborhood is very concerned.

The city of San Clemente is having a meeting on May 7, 2014 at 6:00 PM at City Hall to consider zoning K-Mart Plaza to allow for a homeless shelter. The city has been looking at areas such as Rancho San Clemente (RSC) Business Park and the industrial area behind Denny’s off Pico as possible sites. K-Mart Plaza was suggested at the last meeting by RSC interests as a possible alternative site and will be further considered at the May 7th meeting.

The May 7th meeting is open to the public. If you are concerned about this issue, please attend. There may be an opportunity to express your opinion and/or ask questions at the meeting.

City Hall is located at 100 Avenida Presidio. The number is (949) 361-8200. Everyone, please contact your city council members by phone or email to be sure your voice is heard. Your San Clemente government officials are as follows: Tim Brown (Mayor), Chris Hamm (Mayor Pro Tem), Jim Evert (Council Member), Lori Donchak (Council Member), and Bob Baker (Council Member).
